Ted Williams, the man who became an overnight YouTube sensation, inevitably lands a guest spot on NBC News' "Today". The homeless man who has been branded with the term "Golden Radio Voice" will appear on the morning news program Thursday, January 6 for a live, in-studio interview.
A Columbus Dispatch reporter posted a video of Williams in an intersection in Colombus where he held a cardboard sign with the writing "I have a God given gift of voice. I am an ex-radio announcer that has fallen on hard times." In the video Williams gave an example of his baritone voice and revealed how he ended up homeless for two decades.
The video was consequently watched by more than 7 million people. His meteoric fame has resulted not only in a TV appearance but also job offers. The Brooklyn man is now in New York to reunite with his mom and spend the night at Manhattan's Essex House. He's been offered a job at Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team.
The 53-year-old father of nine told Fox8.com, "That lady offered me a full-time job with the Cavs and then something about the mortgage of a home? I'm going with that! Out of all the offers I've had, and I've had quite a few, I'll be working in Cleveland, Ohio." He's also being pursued by NFL Films for possible work. "It's just phenomenal and it's getting more and more overwhelming as the minutes go by," Williams said.
Doral Chenoweth, the reporter who posted his video, only bid him well, saying "To go from living in a homeless tent - a blue tent on the side of the freeway - to staying in a Central Park Hotel; is a big jump to do in 48 hours. And I just hope he can hold it together and have a great life."
